An effort to recall Mayor Scott Decker and City Commissioner John Odermann did not go to a vote in Dickinson, North Dakota after the required threshold for signatures was not met.[1]

An election to recall City Commissioner Jason Fridrich was scheduled for March 11, 2025. The filing deadline for candidates interested in running in the recall election was January 6, 2025.[1] No candidates filed to run against Fridrich in the recall. The ballot contained space for voters to vote for a write-in candidate. Voters retained Fridrich.[2][3]

Recall supporters

Recall organizers alleged that Decker, Odermann, and Fridrich's oaths of office were not properly filed in accordance with the North Dakota Century Code.[4]

Recall opponents

The Editorial Board of The Dickinson Press published an opinion opposing the effort to recall Fridrich.[5]

No specific grounds are required for recall in North Dakota. The number of signatures required to get the recall on the ballot varies depending on the office type. The number of signatures is equal to either 25% or 35% of voters who cast ballots in the most recent election in which the official sought to be recalled was on the ballot. Petitions must be submitted within 90 days.[6][7]

The recall petitions were submitted on October 30, 2024.[8]
