Biography

Margolies is the President of Women’s Campaign International (WCI). She is also an adjunct professor at the Fels Institute of Govnrnment at the University of Pennsylvania. Margolies is a former journalist for NBC and a best-selling author.[3]

Margolies served as the 13th District representative from 1993-1995. She lost her bid for re-election in 1994 due, according to popular belief, a single vote--the deciding vote which enabled the passage of President Clinton's tax-increasing budget. The vote contradicted a promise she had made not to raise taxes.[4]

Race background

On February 26, 2013, PoliticsPA and The Hill previewed three Pennsylvania races that were showing early promise of a competitive primary or a possible partisan switch. The 13th District was included in their list. Of the eighteen total House seats up for election in 2014, Republicans held thirteen.

The 13th District seat was held by a Democrat, Allyson Schwartz. Schwartz vacated her seat in 2014 because she ran for governor against incumbent Tom Corbett (R).[6]
