Marvin Herman Shoob was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He first joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter and served as a senior federal judge from 1991 until his death in 2017.

Early life and education

Born in Walterboro, South Carolina, Shoob served on active duty in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1942 to 1945. Shoob obtained his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1948.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Georgia

Shoob was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia by President Jimmy Carter on June 5, 1979 to a new judgeship created by 92 Stat. 1629. Shoob was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 23, 1979, and received his commission on July 24, 1979. Shoob elected to take senior status beginning on September 30, 1991, and he served as a senior federal judge until his death on June 12, 2017.[1] Shoob was succeeded in his position on the court by Frank Hull.
