Campaign themes

2016

Kirkbride's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Economic Diversity

  • As we continue to seek solutions to our troubled energy-driven economy, big adjustments must be made, but we can do so pragmatically. All aspects of government from natural resources to roads to education affect Wyoming residents. If we have to make cuts, we must approach these issues with care and stewardship.

Health Care Solutions

  • Leadership is about action. We need to look more closely at creative and sustainable revenue solutions that include removing the speed bumps of previous Legislatures. People are tired of excuses about why our current legislators continue to deny health care solutions to our residents.

Transparency in Government

  • I've been closely involved in the legislative process by providing accurate information to help build bridges on complex issues and to make Wyoming a better place to live. On the other hand, some legislators who have served multiple terms are very aware of the state’s problems yet have done little to solve them. I will do my best to move forward on these issues.
  • We need more effective communication between the executive and legislative branches.

State budget

  • I want to hear from constituents about examining and prioritizing services and/or austerity. Just like a family, there has to be transparency in budgeting and a method in how you move forward. Lay all expenses on the table, spend accordingly on downtimes just like your family would. We’re all paying the cost of budget cuts; we must find creative solutions for living within our means and also improving our means. One idea is to develop guidelines to take from Legislative Stabilization Reserve Accunt and consider treating the Permanent Mineral Trust Fund as an endowment.[1]
