State Executive Elections
State executive official elections in 2012

One state executive position was up for election in 2012 in the state of Louisiana.

The primary election took place on November 6, 2012. Since Scott Angelle received more than 50% of the vote, the general election on December 8, 2012, was not needed.[1]

Louisiana elections use the Louisiana majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50% of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article.

Results

Incumbent James Field (R) did not seek re-election to a third term on the Louisiana Public Service Commission.[2] Five candidates vied for the open seat, and Scott Angelle won by enough votes in the primary on November 6th to avoid a runoff election.[3]
