Two of the five seats on the Jefferson County Schools school board in Alabama were up for general election on November 6, 2018. A primary election was held on June 5, 2018. Incumbent Martha Bouyer defeated Robert Mardis III in the Democratic primary for the District 2 seat. Bouyer faced Eddie Brown (R) in the general election. Place 3 incumbent Oscar Mann lost to challenger Jake Ware in the Republican primary. Ware was unopposed in the general election.[1][2][3]

The Jefferson County Schools school district is located in Alabama. The district was the second-largest school district in the state in the 2014–2015 school year and served 36,003 students.[4]
Pivot Counties

Pivot Counties are counties that voted for Barack Obama (D) in 2008 and 2012 and for Donald Trump (R) in 2016. Altogether, the nation had 206 Pivot Counties, with most being concentrated in upper midwestern and northeastern states. No counties in Alabama are Pivot Counties.
In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump (R) won Alabama with 62.1 percent of the vote. Hillary Clinton (D) received 34.4 percent. In presidential elections between 1900 and 2016, Alabama voted Democratic 53.33 percent of the time and Republican 40 percent of the time. In the five presidential elections between 2000 and 2016, Alabama voted Republican all five times.
