The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 13, 2014. Ronald K. Sears was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent James Gray was unopposed in the Republican primary. Sears and Gray faced off in the general election.[5] Gray defeated Sears in the general election.[6]
