An effort to recall selectmen James Egan and Stephen Amico in Hanson, Massachusetts from their positions was launched in early 2014. A recall election was scheduled to take place in June 2014.
At issue was Egan's and Amico's support for a $58 million elementary school project.[1]
Egan was not eligible for recall because he lost his regularly scheduled election prior to the recall election.[2][3] Amico was successfully recalled and replaced by James McGahan.[4]
Official's response
Amico said, "I will stick to my guns that everything that [recall organizer Mark Vess] said is a total fabrication and untrue. I've done nothing wrong. Mr. Egan has done nothing wrong."[1]

Within the first three days of the petition process, recall proponents collected 500 signatures. Recall organizer Mark Vess said, "This is a very, very strong effort. I am completely confident that [the requirement for] all three precincts will be met comfortably."[1]
Signatures from at least 10 percent of the registered voters in each of Hanson's three precincts were needed to trigger a recall election -- roughly 700 signatures total. Recall supporters ultimately filed 1,054 signatures for Egan's recall petition and 1,064 for Amico's, thereby triggering a recall election. The recall was scheduled to take place on June 28, 2014. Recall proponents had 20 days from the start of petition circulation to collect the requisite signatures.[1][5][6]
Egan lost re-election during the regularly scheduled municipal election in May. Since Egan was no longer a selectman, he was not eligible for recall.[5][3] Amico was successfully recalled and replaced by James McGahan.[4]
