James T. Rooney
James T. Rooney is an acting justice of the Putnam County Supreme Court in the 9th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 2003. He has also served as a multi-bench judge for the Putnam County Family Court, Putnam County Court and the Putnam County Surrogate's Court since 2001. He was re-elected in 2010 for a term that ends on December 31, 2020. He has also served as a judge of the Putnam County Integrated Domestic Violence Court since 2009.[1][2][3]
Education
Rooney received his B.A. degree from Manhattan College in 1972 and his J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1975.[2]
Career
Rooney began his career in 1976 as an attorney for the Putnam County Legal Aid Society. He was assigned to the Family Court and served there until 1979. From 1978 to 1980, he also practiced law part-time as an associate of the firm of Ryder, Costello and Miller. He worked in Putnam County as an assistant district attorney from 1979 to 1980 and then as a chief assistant district attorney from 1980 to 2000.
Rooney began his judicial career in 2001 when he took office as a multi-bench judge of the Family, County and Surrogate's courts of Putnam County. He was appointed an acting justice of the Supreme Court in 2003 and was designated to the Integrated Domestic Violence Court in 2009.[2]
2010 election
Rooney ran for re-election. He competed against Kevin Griffin and won with 65% of the vote.[4][5]
