An effort in Washington, D.C., to recall Councilman Jack Evans was initiated in May 2019. Petitioners began gathering signatures on May 20, 2019.[1] Petitioners failed to submit enough valid signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[2]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by Adam Eidinger in response to an investigation into ethics violations by Evans.[3] Evans was accused of using his influence as a city official, as well as his government email, for the benefit of potential business contacts.[4]
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers were required to submit valid signatures equal to 10% of the registered voters in Ward 2. About 5,500 signatures were needed to be validated in order to put the recall on the ballot.[5] About 5,600 signatures were submitted, with more than 2,000 being challenged for validity. Petitioners failed to submit enough valid signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[2]
