Campaign themes

2014

Gonzalez's website emphasized the following campaign themes:[8]

Support Small Businesses

Small businesses are the foundation of the middle class. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses create two out of every three new jobs. We need to empower small businesses in their quest to grow and be competitive by improving Florida’s economic environment allowing jobs to emerge and businesses to thrive. Julio’s conservative pro-growth policies have earned him the endorsement of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

Invest in Our Students!

In 2013, Florida ranked 6th in education among states in the United States. This is one position lower than the previous year. Let’s provide our students with the mastery of knowledge and skills needed to be competitive assets in our international economy.

Health Care

Repeal Obamacare. Take care of our seniors by making sure Medicare remains vibrant and healthy. As a physician and one who has zealously fought for the highest quality of care to all patients, Dr. Gonzalez will be only the third doctor in Florida’s House of Representatives, which has 120 members.

Balance the Budget

Cut wasteful government spending and balance the state budget by implementing fiscally conservative strategies that have a proven track record of success.

Fiscal Accountability

Support zero-based, accountability budgets that show how every dollar is spent and ensure that taxpayers see positive results for their investment. In these challenging economic times, we cannot afford fraud or waste of our money.[9]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Florida

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
