The Director of the Iowa Department of Education is a state executive position in the Iowa state government.
The department was created by the 35th General Assembly in 1913 and was originally called the Department of Public Instruction. The current name was adopted in 1986.[1]

The current Iowa Director of Education is McKenzie Snow (nonpartisan). Snow assumed office in 2023.

| The director is responsible for exercising general supervision over the state system of public education and nonpublic schools to the extent that is necessary to ascertain compliance with provisions of the Iowa school laws. The director performs the function of executive officer of the state board of education.[2] |

Appointments

Duties
