The Indiana attorney general election took place on November 6, 2012.
In Indiana, the two major parties conduct state conventions to nominate candidates for attorney general.[1] The Republican Party state convention took place on June 9, and the Democratic Party state convention was on June 16. The attorney general was then elected in the general election.
Republican incumbent Attorney General Greg Zoeller kicked off his 2012 re-election campaign at the Statehouse on May 18. Weeks later, Republican convention delegates officially nominated him for a second term.[2] Zoeller ran on his first term performance serving as the state's chief legal counsel. Since first being elected to the office in 2008, he successfully defended legal challenges related to policies such as approving school vouchers, enforcing immigration laws, and defunding Planned Parenthood.[2]
One week after Zoeller's nomination, Indiana Democrats held their convention, at which delegates confirmed the candidacy of attorney Kay Fleming for attorney general. Fleming practiced at her law firm in Indianapolis. She had clerked for two federal judges and served as the first attorney for the Indiana Gaming Commission.
Upon receiving the nomination, Fleming said she could make the office run more efficiently and tackle pressing issues: "I think the children, the DCS system, needs an overhaul. Education system needs and overhaul."[3] She also pointed to constituent concerns about the Do-Not-Call list not functioning as intended as a reason for entering the race, even though she stated that she believed Zoeller was doing a good job.[3][4]
Zoeller defeated Fleming in the general election on November 6, 2012.

- CFA-1 Candidate’s Statement of Organization and Designation of Principal Committee or Exploratory Committee, DUE TWO DAYS AFTER FILING
- CFA-4 Receipts and Expenditures Report of a Candidate’s Committee, filed three times a year, for the primary, general, and annual reports
- CFA-11 Supplemental "Large Contribution" Report by a Candidate’s Committee, applicable to donations exceeding $1,000 and due within 48 hours of receipt
