Hale R. Stancil was a Marion County judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles to a newly created position on the court, effective on January 4, 1994.[1][2] Stancil retired on December 31, 2015.[3]

Education

Stancil was born in Ocala, Fla., on January 3, 1946. He received an associate degree from Central Florida Community College in 1966, a B.S. from the University of Florida in 1968 and a J.D. from Stetson University School of Law in 1973. Prior to attending law school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1969 to 1971.[4]

Career

Stancil began his career in 1972 as a sole practitioner. The following year, he became an associate attorney with Lewis O. Myers, Jr., though he continued to work as a sole practitioner through 1982. He worked with Myers until 1975. From 1974 to 1978, he served as an assistant public defender in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. He then joined the Marion County Court, where he served from January of 1983 through December of 1993. In January 1994, he was appointed to the circuit court.[1][4]

2012 election

Stancil was unopposed and automatically re-elected following the primary election on August 14, 2012.[5]
