The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 10, 2014; minor party and independent candidates had until June 2, 2014, to file. Weylin Achatz defeated Gerald Cuvillier in the Democratic primary. Bob Brown defeated Katy Walton in the Republican primary. Brown defeated Achatz in the general election.
