Gregory E. Maggs is a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on a voice vote on January 29, 2018. He was nominated to the court by President Donald Trump (R) on October 2, 2017.[1] He was commissioned to serve a 15-year term on the court.
At the time of his nomination, Maggs was the Arthur Selwyn Miller Professor of Law at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he served as co-director of the National Security and U.S. Foreign Relations Law LL.M. program.[2][1]
Education
Maggs earned his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Harvard College in 1985. Maggs was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate and a John Harvard scholar. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1988. During a period of his legal studies at Harvard, he served as an articles co-chair for the Harvard Law Review. Maggs earned a master of strategic studies degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2014, where he received the Daniel M. Lewin writing award.[2][3]
Military service
Maggs was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1990. Maggs served as a trial or appellate military judge from 2007 to 2017. At the time of his appointment to the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, he was a colonel in the Reserve.[4]

Maggs was nominated by President Donald Trump (R) on October 2, 2017, to a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces vacated by Charles Erdmann. Hearings on Maggs' nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services on November 14, 2017, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on November 16, 2017.[1] He was confirmed on January 29, 2018, to a 15-year term on the court.
