Florida Senior Homestead Assessment Amendment (2012)

The Florida Senior Homestead Assessment Amendment did not make the November 6, 2012 state ballot in Florida as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. If enacted this amendment would have enabled the state legislature to authorize counties and municipalities to limit the assessed value of homesteads of low-income senior citizens. The measure was being sponsored by state Representatives Jeanette Nuñez and Erik Fresen.[1][2]
Path to the ballot
In order to qualify for the November 2012 ballot the proposed amendment required approval by a minimum of 60% in the both the House and the Senate.
On Thursday, February 23, 2012, the House passed the bill on a vote of 116-0.[1][2] It was not approved by the state Senate.[2]
