An effort to recall Mayor Chris Bell and city commissioners John Gunner, Sharron Kelly and Albert Goldberg in Fruitland Park, Florida from their positions was launched in March 2014.[1] Recall supporters abandoned their campaign and the effort did not go to a vote.
Recall proponent arguments
Former city commission candidate Michael Howard spearheaded the recall effort. He alleged that the mayor and commission wasted taxpayer dollars to settle lawsuits. "In the last 10 to 11 months we have paid more than $1 million in lawsuits. If this was a private company, these individuals would be fired," Howard said.[1]

Recall proponents were first required to submit 250 valid signatures. Proponents would then have been required to submit additional signatures in order to trigger an actual recall election.[1] However, the recall effort was abandoned shortly after its launch, and the recall effort did not go to a vote.[2]
