Hurdle all the bars set by Rudyard Kipling in the poem IF
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
I first read The Color Purple by Alice Walker as a young adult. I related to many of the tribulations Celie faced and prevailed over like growing up black and poor and being judged by my size and skin color. I too am an entrepreneur. Like Celie my business success is a testament that talent, creativity and ingenuity are more powerful than racism and bigotry.

I travel extensively and when possible I enjoy attending outdoor concerts and opera. On one visit to Beijing China I attended a performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at the Forbidden City Concert Hall. It was a magnificent performance. I have since seen Carmina Burana at Lincoln Center and the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.
Growing up in a house with no running water had a profound impact on my life. One of my most rewarding occupations was designing and building water treatment equipment. I understand the chemistry and the importance of clean water. When people think of improving the roads; I think about improving the water service and sewer lines, and gas lines and electric cables and high speed internet along with improving the roads. Having no running water taught me to take nothing for granted. Value all the services my city offers. Value and do not waste.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
