David Shakes is a judge of the Colorado 4th Judicial District. His current term ends on January 14, 2031.

Shakes ran for re-election for judge of the Colorado 4th Judicial District. He won in the retention election on November 5, 2024.

He was appointed to this position in March of 2003.[1]

Education

Shakes received his B.A. degree from Lehigh University in 1975 and his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1978. He later earned a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2003.[1]

Career

Beginning in 1979, Shakes served as an Army Judge Advocate in Colorado. He served on active duty until 1983 working as a claims officer, prosecutor and defense counsel. He has served in the Army Reserve since 1983. He worked as a partner of the law firm of Hendricks, Hendricks and Shakes, P.C. prior to joining the District Court in 2003.[1]

Judicial performance evaluation

The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance announced its recommendations for judges up for retention in 2012. According to its website, the commission evaluates judges based on the following criteria: integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, and administrative performance.[3]

Judge Shakes was recommended for retention by an unanimous vote. [4]
