|I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for civil rights, often in unconventional ways. So yes, when I saw thousands of Floridians dying from this horrific pandemic, I put on a grim reaper costume to draw attention to the fact that—as long as the beaches remained open during spring break—tourists would continue to pour into Florida and infection rates and deaths would soar. Since then, I have continued opposing DeSantis’ authoritarian agenda, including making national news for fighting the book bannings sweeping Florida. I never shy away from a tough fight; it’s in my DNA.
I want to wake up every day and go to work fighting for everyday Floridians. Whether it’s clamping down on corruption in Tallahassee or coming after corporations who are jacking up prices, I believe this office can be an incredible force of good. No matter who the governor is, I will always be relentless in pursuit of justice for Florida families. That’s what we deserve out of our Attorney General.- From rising rents to outrageous property insurance hikes to out of control utility costs, clamping down on corporate greed is my core reason for running for this office. Consumer protection is such a critical role of this office that it even has its own division, with dedicated attorneys. But the current attorney general has completely abdicated this responsibility, instead dedicating her time and resources to defending the governor’s culture war. I will ensure that this office is used in defense of renters and homeowners against greedy corporate developers, utility companies, and insurance companies.
- Voting rights are under attack across this country, including here in Florida. The current attorney general, Ashley Moody, took a leading role in trying to overturn the legitimate 2020 election, joining Texas’ Attorney General in a lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to invalidate the election. Moody served on the board of the Rule of Law Defense Fund, which urged people to join the Capitol insurrection. Republicans in Florida are creating electoral districts to favor themselves through gerrymanders, and it’s time to put a stop to it. We deserve an attorney general who will always fight to protect and expand the right to vote.
- When the draft Supreme Court decision leaked in May, I made my stance clear without any hesitation: I will never investigate nor prosecute someone for getting or providing an abortion. If Florida passes a total abortion ban, I will use every power as attorney general to refuse to enforce it. The Supreme Court made the wrong decision. Congress failed to protect us. Now, this fight comes to the states. The attorney general can be a firewall to prevent the enforcement of any ban. If I am attorney general, I will do everything I can to keep patients and doctors safe.
