My name is Chelsea Johnson. I am a 7th generation Nebraskan. I grew up on the family farm in Nemaha County and moved to Lincoln over 15 years ago to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University. I have served as a Community & Economic Development Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and I have been Deputy Director of Conservation Nebraska for over ten years.

As Treasurer of the Lower Platte South NRD Board, I have experience budgeting responsibly while providing essential services our community relies on. For my entire tenure at the NRD, we have kept our budget stable and as Treasurer, I oversaw the greatest reduction in our tax levy in 15 years. I will apply this same commitment to fiscal responsibility as your County Commissioner.

I love our community and I believe we can make it an even better place to live. I’m concerned about the growing division we have in America today and the impacts it is having here locally. I’m concerned about the rising cost of living and how far too many of our seniors, families, and neighbors are struggling. As County Commissioner, I will work hard to bring people together to reduce our tax burden, make everyday necessities more affordable, and ensure our community is a safe and healthy place to live.
  • My priority is to reduce our tax burden, make everyday necessities more affordable, and ensure our community is a safe place to live. As Treasurer of the Lower Platte South NRD, I made fiscal responsibility a number one priority while providing critical services our community relies on. I built bipartisan support for a stable budget and to substantially reduce our tax levy to keep more money in taxpayers’ pockets. I will use this same common-sense approach on the County Board.
  • I’m running to bring people together around common sense solutions to make our community more safe and affordable. When Commissioner Amundson decided not to seek re-election, I was asked to run. I decided to do so because I care about our community. I am honored to be the only candidate endorsed by the Lincoln Police Union, Lincoln Firefighters Union, Nebraska Fraternal Order of the Police, AFL-CIO, and Republicans, including Commissioner Amundson, and Independents and Democrats across our community.
  • Lancaster County is a great, growing community, but more and more people are struggling to get by. The cost of housing, healthcare, and childcare have all gone up and our families, friends, and neighbors are having a hard time affording the basics. I will work to protect the things we love about our community and make sure it's affordable for all.
Lower property taxes

Good paying jobs and economic opportunity
Public safety
Improved infrastructure

Affordable housing, childcare, and healthcare
Having served as an elected official for almost eight years, I know that the most important qualities are listening, asking questions, treating others with respect, and working to find common ground. As a member of the Lower Platte South NRD Board and the Lincoln Electric System Board, I have worked with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to keep costs low while providing the important services that people expect.
I am a very hard worker, a good listener, and I am passionate about learning and making sure that I gather as much information and insight as possible before making a decision. As County Commissioner, I will always have time for my community's concerns. I can be reached anytime at info@chelseaforlancaster.com
