Christianburg Council Election Referendum (November 2009)
The Christianburg Council Election Referendum was on the November 3 ballot in Montgomery County. The measure approved.[1]

This referendum sought to change the date of town council elections. The elections were set in May, but the referendum changed that to November, making it so city elections coincide with county and state elections as well. The town had to fund their own election in May, but moving it to November, the county pays for it and saves the town on average $5,000 per election. Proponents said it would help local voters to understand more of what was being voted on, opponents said that it would create partisan votes for local offices because they would coincide with state elections. Municipalities are able to choose their own election date and over 200 in the state hold their elections in May.[2]
