Colorado clerks of court and recorders

Clerk of Court and Recorder is an elected position in the state of Colorado according to the state's constitution.

Election

All powers and authority granted to the county clerk and recorder can be exercised by a deputy clerk in the absence of the county clerk and recorder or if the county clerk and recorder for any reason is unable to perform the required duties.

Government roles

The county clerk and recorder consults with the secretary of state and follows the rules and orders the secretary of state issues.

Any communication by mail from the county clerk and recorder to any registered voter, including, a voter information card or an elector information card, shall be sent to an address of record for the voter unless the voter has requested that communication like this be sent to his or her deliverable mailing address. This applies to voters registered after August 4, 1999.

For any voter registered as of August 4, 1999, who has provided the county clerk and recorder an address of record as well as a deliverable mailing address but has not indicated a mailing preference, any communication by mail from the county clerk and recorder to any registered voter shall be sent to the elector's deliverable mailing address.[1]

Position overview

The County Clerk and Recorder serves the public through offices situated in various locations throughout the municipality where he or she records documents, files maps, issues marriage licenses, registers voters, handles elections and prepares and issues motor vehicle titles and plates. As the chief election official for the county, the county clerk and recorder shall be the chief designated election official for all coordinated elections.[1]

Colorado clerks of court and recorders may belong to the Colorado County Clerks Association, a government sector lobbying organization.
