Mike Leland is a Managing Editor for Ballotpedia. Mike joined the staff in 2025. Mike Leland joins Ballotpedia from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), where he led part of the team developing the first state-owned open education resources for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade in Reading, Language Arts, and Math. Mike has worked in public policy and politics for over fifteen years in issue areas including health care, criminal justice, election, and education policy working in Washington DC at several non-profit policy organizations including The Heritage Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts. Mike holds a BA in English from Penn State University and a MA in Political Science from American University. He resides in Austin, Texas with his dachshund, Fajita.
