An effort to recall Bob Kattnig from his position on the Custer County Commission in Colorado was launched in July 2016. The petition was filed on July 15. Darla Dee Wilhite, Jaxine Campbell Bubis, and Carol Dianne Clemenson circulated the petition seeking signatures. Recall proponents accused Kattnig, who represents District 1, of incompetence and misogyny.[1] Proponents did not turn in signatures by the deadline of September 12, 2016, and therefore the recall did not go to a vote.[2]

Recall supporters

The following was the reasoning for the recall, as written in the recall petition.[1]

Mr. Kattnig has proven over and over that he is incompetent in the office of Commissioner. He has even stated to the Colorado Secretary of State the reason he did not file the documentation at the end of last November was because of his incompetence. So he readily admits it. Many commissioner meetings are called to a halt as he indicates he has not read or is not prepared to make a ruling. This is a concern as it is important to county business to act in a timely manner. He is also misogynistic, treating women with total disdain. His actions in public reveal his total disdain for authority. He appears to feel that everyone should be in agreement with him at all times when most of the time he has no idea what he is talking about. He represented himself as a rancher when he was running for office. It is well known and of public record that he owns only 20 acres not a ranch.[3]

Recall proponents had 60 days from the day of filing to collect 396 valid signatures, putting the deadline at September 12, 2016.[1] The number of signatures required to force a recall election in Colorado is 25 percent of the votes cast in the last election for the official being recalled. Proponents did not turn in signatures by the deadline in September.[2]
