- Immigration Reform: All people benefit from an immigration system with a path to citizenship. However, our broken immigration system exposes immigrants to exploitation. Millions of aspiring Americans struggle to support their families on poverty wages, sometimes in inadequate or unsafe working conditions.
- Sustainable 21st Century Infrastructure: Building sustainable 21st century infrastructure will increase economic development and productivity, create jobs to build and maintain, and meet the increasing demand with the expected one million people and 800,000 cars moving into the region by 2040. Carbon pollution would be reduced. The infrastructure would open arid dessert land and make it accessible in minutes rather than hours, and planned development with CleanTech would establish affordable housing and cost efficient land for manufacturing and businesses. Our forests and habitat would be left in their natural state.
- Export-Import Bank: As a global business strategist, Alida Skold has met with the White House and members of Congress to discuss the Export-Import Bank to support its reauthorization, and to give it the ability to become fully functional. The bank has brought over $7 billion to the US Treasury in the 20 years of its operation. Our global competition uses credit institutions to compete - this isn't the time to hold back the ability of the US to compete in the global market. We must have a fully functioning Export-Import Bank.
- Equality For All: The inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all human beings are the foundations of freedom, justice and peace in the world. The strength of our democracy rests on the rights and responsibilities set forth in the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Washington State Constitution. Democrats remain at the forefront of the struggle, and I will work to extend social, political, economic and legal rights to all persons.
- Supporting Public Education: Fundamental to maintaining a healthy democracy is an excellent quality public education extending from preschool through post-secondary with equal access for all in a safe and healthy environment. The backbone of our democracy is a free, universal public school system, designed to produce informed, reasoning, and thoughtful citizens who are lifelong learners prepared to participate in our civic society.
