Abdul Kallon
Abdul K. Kallon was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He joined the court in 2010 after a nomination from President Barack Obama. He retired from the court on August 31, 2022.[1]
On February 11, 2016, Obama nominated Kallon to a position on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.[2] On January 3, 2017, Kallon's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[3]
Biography
A native of Freetown, Sierra Leone, Kallon received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1990 and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1993.[1]

Kallon was nominated on July 31, 2009, by President Barack Obama to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama vacated by Judge U. W. Clemon. The American Bar Association rated Kallon Substantial Majority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Kallon's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on November 4, 2009, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on November 19, 2009. Kallon was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on November 21, 2009, and he received his commission on January 4, 2010.[1][4][5]

Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals
On February 11, 2016, Obama nominated Kallon to a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
The president said regarding the nomination, "Judge Kallon has a long and impressive record of service and a history of handing down fair and judicious decisions. He will be a thoughtful and distinguished addition to the Eleventh Circuit, and I am extremely pleased to put him forward."[2]
The American Bar Association rated Kallon Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[6]
On January 3, 2017, Kallon's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[3]
