|Being raised in a military family inspires me to serve to make my community better. Along with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and graduate work in Special Education, I taught and volunteered in all grades in Indiana. My most rewarding experiences include my work in the Special Education classroom at Decatur Middle School, my successful fight for background checks in Hagerstown and my volunteer work at the Boys & Girls Club in Muncie. My life's aspiration is to advocate for all students, their families and their community.
As HOA President of my southside Wayne District neighborhood, I have experience as a community leader. I effectively engage with members of our community, mediate disputes and balance a community budget-even adding services without raising revenue.
- I will promote a platform to eradicate bullying from our schools. Our scholars should never experience this negative form of communication or suffer from its distressing effects.
- I will ensure you have easy & free live access to board meetings online. I intend to introduce free options so you can video-stream & watch school board meetings from the comfort of home.
- I hold your tax dollars in high regard and oppose new taxes. I will keep our budget balanced, utilize funds in the most efficient manner & try to stop problems before they occur.
I am personally passionate about any public policies that effect our schools systems, such as legislation for funding or curriculum.
The people that know me would tell you I am resourceful. When my community needs something, I work to solve the problem. When a teacher I worked with needed funding to create a mock classroom store, I successfully applied for a grant. I recently applied for a revitalization grant from Indianapolis to replace my neighborhood's entrance signs. Grants are an excellent way to generate extra dollars that can be used to further Wayne goals.
Besides resourcefulness, I am also an excellent mediator. I can see all sides to an issue and create compromises to solve problems. When there was a known predator volunteering in a Hagerstown elementary school, I worked directly with the Indiana Department of Education & Hagerstown Schools to implement background checks and keep the predator from re-entering the school. I would use my mediation skills while discussing policy and budgeting, helping the board and Wayne schools reach the best possible outcomes.
