Arturo Alonso-Sandoval is a recent college graduate, attaining a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. With the help and trust of this community, Arturo has also managed to win his seat in the State House of Representatives representing District 89 in south Oklahoma City as one of the youngest elected officials in the legislature. Growing up on the south side of Oklahoma City, Arturo knows what it's like to face structural injustices. From his experiences, Arturo developed values such as learning, resilience, and service, immersing himself in academic and extracurricular activities while always striving to leave a lasting contribution in his community. Arturo is a first-generation American, bilingual, and son of immigrant parents from Mexico so he is committed to working hard and fighting for progress.
  • Ensure we have a thriving educational system
  • Create a justice system that rehabilitates, not punishes
  • Put money back in the pockets of working families
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the financial security of many members of my community has been damaged. It has disproportionately hit small local businesses; those with lower incomes; single households; Asian, Black, Hispanic, Latin American, and Indigenous populations; and those without college degrees. I want to bring meaningful progress to those most impacted by increasing the minimum wage, creating a paid family and medical leave program, and ensuring money stay in the pockets of working families.

Oklahoma’s per-pupil spending is among the lowest in the nation and this is evident in the quality of education offered to students in public schools. The schools in my community are underfunded and underresourced. To combat this, I hope to recruit the best teachers by ensuring competitive pay and getting schools the funding they need.

When it comes to public safety and infrastructure, my community needs a comprehensive and integrated approach. That means ensuring police officers are trained to be community-focused. As well as having adequate funding for roads and bridges, libraries, after-school programs, social services, and counseling – all interconnected and vital to creating a safer community.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Oklahoma

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
