|My name is Art De La Cruz and I am running for the District 12 State Representative House seat as a Democratic write-in candidate in the 2020 Election. District 12 is made up of much of the South Valley and South West Albuquerque, and as a South Valley native, born and raised in the same home I now live in, my roots have shaped me into who I am today. My upbringing taught me about pride in an honest days work, the value of family, the value of education, and an unwavering drive to better the community that I grew up in and that raised me. I served as County Commissioner from 2008-2016, and I fought every day to make sure we were not forgotten and that our journey got us closer to the great community we want, deserve and waited too long for. I will continue to do that as your State Representative, fighting to bring us and our children a better tomorrow. To do this, I will need your support, and I ask you to remember to please write my name, "Art De La Cruz" in the space provided on your ballot for the democratic candidate because you won't see my name printed.
- State Property Tax Reform To Cap Taxes for Seniors Who Own Their Homes
- State-Sponsored Low interest Loans for Higher Education Students
- Centralized Statewide Call Center for Families and School Districts to be Connected to Critical Social Services
I am passionate about improving our public educational system in order to give our children a leg up to a better future, as well as supporting our higher educational students through state-sponsored low interest loans. I am dedicated to improving mental health services throughout the state so that anyone can have access to the resources they need. Furthermore, I am committed to ensuring our seniors are looked after, and making sure policies are put in place that help the wisest and some of the most vulnerable among us. Last but not least, I will work tirelessly to bring our community closer to the future that we have been carefully cultivating and have deserved for so long.
I believe it is absolutely critical to have experience in government. When I was served as County Commissioner, I learned to really appreciate just how important compromise is, with members of your own party as well as members of the other party. With this knowledge and experience, I worked to spearhead programs such as Art's Aces, which was a program to encourage and incentivize academic excellence. Additionally, I worked closely with local and federal groups and politicians to spearhead the creation of the Valle Del Oro National Wildlife Refuge. Experience matters and results matter.
I believe building relationships with other legislators is one of the lost art forms of politics. These relationships, both inside your party and with members of the other party, are the foundation on which we build compromise, and compromise and working together is how we will make New Mexico a better place better for us all

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
