Candidate Connection

Ann Kelley completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Kelley's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Serve the constituents in district 127 by making myself available, listening and then acting. I will do everything possible that problems are solved. I will be transparent in everything that I do, including voting according to how my constituents believe, think and uphold their core values.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about representing my district and what they want. Being a teacher, I do have first hand experience that I believe will be valuable. Also, having agriculture in my blood, I would also say that I am passionate local farmers and agriculture.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My husband, Mike Melley, has been our Representative for the previous 8 years and has served our district well, and I am wanting to ensure the service continues.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

I encourage you to look at my website, www.annkelley.org and my Facebook page to see who I am as a person.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

A representative must have a serving heart in order to be able to do the job well. God has blessed me with service and always wanting to help people.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I know through my heart to serve, my agriculture background, being a small business owner and a teacher for 13 years that I will be able to effectively serve our district.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I hope that after I have served in this office people remember me as someone that was there for her constituents and helped when problems occurred. The district is a better place because of how she served.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was helping my brother bale hay. I drove the tractor and he loaded the bales. At this same time I would disk and combine for my dad.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Missouri

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Missouri scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
