An effort to recall Art Nelson and Judy Mayne from their positions on the Western Elmore County Recreation District board of directors in Idaho was launched in 2017. A group called Friends for Recreation initiated the recall because the board canceled the contract to build a new recreation center. Petitions containing signatures in favor of the recall were turned in and approved in July 2017. The election was on November 7, 2017, and the recalls for both board members were approved.[1]

Nelson is the board president, and Mayne is the vice president.

Western Elmore County voters approved a tax to build a new recreation center in 2000. Friends for Recreation said the construction was underway in 2015 and was canceled after Nelson and Mayne were elected to the district board. "When everything was said and done, the fees and everything else, it cost us over $800,000," said Friends for Recreation member Vivian Meyer.[2]
