Washington down ballot state executive elections, 2012
Five down ballot state executive positions were up for election in the state of Washington in 2012.
- Washington Treasurer- James McIntire (D)
- Washington State Auditor - Troy Kelley (D)
- Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction- Randy Dorn
- Washington Commissioner of Insurance- Mike Kreidler

The general election was held on November 6, 2012, following a primary on August 7, 2012.
Washington uses a top-two system, where all candidates for each partisan office appear together on the primary ballot.
Candidates were listed in the order in which they appeared on the ballot, according to Washington's lot draw system.[2]
Treasurer
Incumbent James McIntire (D) won re-election in 2012. He was first elected in 2008. It appeared that McIntire would be unopposed in the primary and general election, but for the first time in three decades, a statewide candidate surpassed the 1% threshold for top two primary write-ins and advanced to the general election. The candidate, Sharon Hanek (R), challenged McIntire's re-election campaign but was defeated in the general election.[3][4]

Incumbent Brian Sonntag (D) did not seek re-election. He first took office in 1993.[5]
