Thomas Greto
Thomas Greto was a 2013 Independent candidate for District 1 of the New Jersey State Senate.[1][2]
In 2011, Greto ran unsuccessfully on the Republican ticket for District 1 of the New Jersey State Senate. In November 1994, Greto ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He was also elected three times as Lower Township committeeman from District 1, ward 2.
Biography
Greto graduated from St. James High School in Chester Pennsylvania. Later, he attended Pennsylvania Military College for 2 years, enrolling in night classes to advance in real estate.
Greto is a retired businessman (9 years), and Army veteran. Over the course of his career, he owned two companies, a real estate and financial services firm, Tom Greto Agency, and Tom Greto Construction Company. He also served in the U.S. Army as a military police detective 4th class, and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1967.

The Team Greto, Halley and Boyce slogan was "Repeal Unconstitutional Regulations to Restore Prosperity."
On his campaign website, Greto listed 2 areas of rapid economic decline as reasons for his candidacy:

"The devastating decline in jobs and businesses here in South Jersey are two main reasons I am running to oust Van Drew. 75% of the jobs created in District 1 are from small business. When elected, I will host workshops between banks and small businesses to help them secure loans to expand."

Greto ran in the 2013 election for New Jersey State Senate District 1. He was defeated by incumbent Jeff Van Drew (D) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[1][3]

Greto ran in the 2011 election for New Jersey Senate District 1. Greto was defeated by Republican candidate David DeWeese in the primary on June 7, 2011. Incumbent Jeff Van Drew (D) ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 8, 2011.[4]

Noteworthy events
Misdemeanor conviction
In 1994, Thomas Greto was charged with embezzling about $400,000 from friends and business associates. He allegedly used the money on a gambling trip in Atlantic City.[5] Greto was convicted of deceitful business practices, a misdemeanor, but was found not guilty on charges of theft.[6]
Greto acknowledged his misdemeanor and subsequent two-year jail time, but does not think it was relevant to the 2011 election. "It's passed, it's years ago. I know the Lord forgave me," Greto said.[5]
More recently in 2008, Greto filed for bankruptcy, which he said was the result of residual problems from the 1994 case.[5]
