Four of the seven seats on the Tooele County School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbent Kathy Taylor ran unopposed and won re-election to the District 1 seat after Craig Pitts withdrew from the race before the election. District 2 incumbent Julia Holt defeated Katie Redmond for re-election to her seat. Incumbent Scott Bryan defeated Chad Ellis in the general election for the District 3 seat after defeating Diane Cramer in the primary election. In District 4, incumbent Maresa Manzione defeated Matthew Rowley to win re-election to her seat.[1]

The Tooele school board consists of seven members elected by geographical district to four-year terms. There was a primary election for District 3 held on June 28, 2016, and a general election was held on November 8, 2016, for four seats.[2]
The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 17, 2016.[1]

The Tooele County school board election shared the ballot with federal elections for President of the United States, United States Senate, and United States Representative. Tooele County School District is located in Tooele County, Utah. The county seat is Tooele. Tooele County was home to 62,952 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the 12th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 14,324 students.[7]
Demographics
Tooele County underperformed in comparison to Utah as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 20.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 30.6 percent of all state residents. The median household income for the county was $63,077, compared to $59,846 for the entire state. The poverty rate in Tooele County was 8.1 percent, compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[6]
