Tony Navarrete
Tony Navarrete (Democratic Party) was a member of the Arizona State Senate, representing District 30. He assumed office in 2019. He left office on August 10, 2021.
Navarrete (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Arizona State Senate to represent District 30. He won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Navarrete was also a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 30. He was first elected to the chamber in 2016, and he served until January 2019.
Biography
Navarrete was born and raised in West Phoenix. He attended Carl Hayden Community High School and subsequently graduated with a degree in urban and metropolitan studies from Arizona State University. After graduation, Navarrete moved to New York to work on housing and jobs issues in the area. He later moved back to Arizona.[1]
In November 2016, Navarrete was elected to the Arizona State House of Representatives to represent Arizona's 30th District. After the election, Navarrete became a sitting member on the Federalism, Property Rights and Public Policy Committee, as well as the Health Committee.[2] In November 2018, Navarrete was elected to the Arizona Senate to represent Arizona's 30th District.

Elections for the Arizona House of Representatives took place in 2016. The primary election took place on August 30, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was June 1, 2016.[3] Incumbent Debbie McCune-Davis (D) did not seek re-election.
Ray Martinez and Tony Navarrete defeated Gary Cox in the Arizona House of Representatives District 30 general election.[4][5]

Noteworthy events
Arrest on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor (2021)
Phoenix police arrested Navarrete on August 5, 2021, on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor. According to authorities, the alleged sexual conduct took place in 2019.[10][11] He resigned on August 10, 2021, stating, "I adamantly deny all allegations that have been made and will pursue all avenues in an effort to prove my innocence. In doing so, I will be focusing the vast majority of my time and energy on my defense."[12]
In February 2024, Navarrete was found guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor. On April 26, 2024, he was sentenced to one year in prison and ten years of supervised release. He was also required to register as a sex offender. As of April 2024, Navarrete planned to file an appeal. Navarrete also faced a single charge of child molestation, as well as having sexual conduct with a minor, both of which he was found not guilty.[13]
