One seat on the Red Clay Consolidated School District school board was up for general election on May 13, 2014. Incumbent Michael Piccio defeated challenger Dennis Cini to retain the District E seat.[1]

Red Clay Consolidated School District is located in New Castle County, Delaware. The county seat of New Castle County is Wilmington. According to the United States Census Bureau, New Castle County is home to 538,479 residents.[2]

Demographics

New Castle County outperformed in comparison to the rest of Delaware in terms of higher education achievement in 2010. The United States Census Bureau found that 33.5 percent of New Castle County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 28.5 percent for Delaware as a whole. The median household income in New Castle County was $64,670 compared to $60,119 for the state of Delaware. The poverty rate in New Castle County was 10.7 percent compared to 11.5 percent for the entire state.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The Red Clay Consolidated School Board consists of seven members elected to five-year terms in separate geographic districts. There was no primary election and the general election was held on May 13, 2014.[3] The District E seat was on the ballot in 2014.[4]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on February 5, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 7, 2014.[5]
