Four seats on the Robbinsdale Area Schools Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014.
Incumbents Mark Bomchill and Patsy Green ran against challengers Andrea Bejarano-Robinson, David Boone, Michael J. Herring, Jeff Houle, Pamela Lindberg and Ron Stoffel for the seats. Fellow board members Linda Johnson and Tom Walsh did not file for re-election.[1] Lindberg, Green, Boone and Herring won the race.

Robbinsdale Area Schools is located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The county seat is Minneapolis. Hennepin County is home to 1,198,778 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Robbinsdale Area Schools was the ninth-largest school district in Minnesota and served 12,298 students.[3]
Demographics
Hennepin County overperformed compared to the rest of Minnesota in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 45.5 percent of Hennepin County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 32.2 percent for Minnesota as a whole. The median household income for Hennepin County was $63,559 compared to $59,126 for the state of Minnesota. The percentage of people below poverty level for Hennepin County was 12.6 percent while it was 11.2 percent for the state of Minnesota.[2]

Voter and candidate information
The Robbinsdale Board of Education consists of seven members elected at-large to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four seats were up for election in 2014.[1]
School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period. The filing period began on July 29, 2014, and ended on August 12, 2014. To vote in the 2014 general election, voters had to register by October 14, 2014.[5][6]

Endorsements
Incumbent Mark Bomchill and challengers David Boone, Michael J. Herring and Pamela Lindberg received an endorsement from the Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers. Bomchill also received a resolution of support from DFL Senate District 45.[7]
Boone, Herring and fellow challenger Andrea Bejarano-Robinson received an endorsement from Service Employees International Union Local 284.[8]
Campaign finance
Candidates reported $1,850.00 in contributions and $1,225.96 in expenditures during the election, according to Robbinsdale Area Schools.[9]
State law does not require campaign finance reporting if contributions or expenditures do not exceed $750 in a calendar year.[10]

Additional elections on the ballot
This election shared the ballot with general elections for a U.S. House seat, a U.S. Senate seat, Minnesota state executive offices and Minnesota House of Representatives seats. It also shared the ballot with county, municipal and judicial elections.[11] Two tax referendum measures appeared on the ballot. Question 1 was a renewal of the existing tax levy, and Question 2 was a tax increase to fund technology projects in the district.[12]
