Ronnie Morris
Ronnie Morris (Republican Party) is a member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, representing District 6. He assumed office on January 13, 2020. His current term ends on January 10, 2028.
Morris (Republican Party) won re-election to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to represent District 6 outright in the primary on October 14, 2023, after the general election was canceled.
Biography
Morris was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University and is an engineer.[1]
He is the founder/president of We Produce Grads, is board treasurer of BASIS Schoo, and a mentor in the ExxonMobil Diversity Scholars Program.[1]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Like everyone else in our state, I am tired of hearing that we are first in Poverty and last in Education. I am passionate about working with parents, local school districts and other elected officials to establish policy that will close the gaps in public education and starve poverty in our state.
What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?
The BESE Board has three unique and important qualities that make it an important part of the state government and legal system: 1. Enacting policies and adopting regulations governing the state-wide operation of public and private elementary and secondary schools. 2. Preparing the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP), presenting it to the state legislature for approval and distributing funds to local school districts. 3. Appoint the State Superintendent of Education.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
An elected official should represent the public's best interest with integrity and serve effectively to advance the stated mission of the office.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I believe the following qualities would make me a successful office holder: > generous with time and resources > demonstrated commitment to responsibility > good listener > experience

Opportunities for others to access education that will enable to pursue their dreams.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
The first historical event that I can recall in my lifetime was the assination of President John F Kennedy. I was four years old.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My very first job was mowing neighborhood lawns at age 12 for two years.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
Superman can fly, save lives and nobody knows who he is.
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
finding enough hours in the day !
What responsibilities of this office do you personally consider the most important?
I consider the responsibilities below to be the most important for BESE Board members: 1. Policies are in place that provide every child in Louisiana with the best education possible. 2. Teachers are recognized as professionals with professional compensation and development for professional performance. 3. Our students are prepared to advance Louisiana in an increasingly competitive global market.
Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?
Yes, more people should be aware that BESE exists and the responsibilities associated with the board.
Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?
NO.
What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?
