A JFK Democrat, "Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For, Ask What You Can Do For Your County". A public sevant for over 4 decades working for the Department of Defense, a Midwest farm boy, Air Force veteran, and a union leader describes Ron. Ron spent 2 decades working for the government over seas, and retired with Top Secret security clearance.
  • Bodily Autonomy. In very simple terms, Ron believes that the State should not tell an individual what they cannot remove from their body, nor should the State tell an individual what they must put into their body. The individual has the right to body autonomy
  • Constitutional Rights. Ron is a strong supporter of gun rights. Gun rights are clearly established by the United States Constitution and the Michigan Constitution. The United States Constitution 2nd Amendment is very clear - the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
  • Election Integrity. Ron believes elections must be conducted in a manner that provides the voter with an outcome that is fair and freely conducted.
The condition of the roads and infrastructure in Michigan are the result of Public Act 51. This act is now 52 years old and should be recinded in it's enterity and replaced with legislation that provides funding directly to the townships.

Legislation that diminishes an individual’s lawful Constitutional rights is bad legislation. Punishing law-abiding citizens for a criminal’s action does not pass the common sense test. Ron supports legislation that strengthens the punishment for crime with a gun and believes this is good legislation.

Ron will propose legislation modeled after the Veteran Reemployment Act that helped him. This legislation will provide honorably discharged Michigan veterans with a preference in hiring for all State employment. Ron believes that veterans must have the first hiring preference.

Spelling.
The educational "experts" when I was in gradeschool determined I did not have to learn phonics. And that has formed by opinion of experts.
Governor is responsible for the executive branch offices of the State Government, and responsible to approve or veto presented legislation. The State legislator is responsible to balance the budget and propose effective leghislation.
Funding. Period. Currently the amount of subsidized programs (I.E. Medicaid, Bridge Cards, and other supplemntal aid programs) provided by the state of Michigan will overwhelm existing funding.
The State of Michigan should convert to a part-time legislature in a unicameral system. The benefit will be focused legislation that is effective with significant reduced cost to the taxpayer.
Sometimes you need a fresh perpective, however, my 41 years of government experience has equipped me with to deal with a buerecratic system and it's subsequent buerecrats.
Yes. Yu have to build coalitions to craft legislation effectively. The 45th district is rural, therefore I need to work with other legislative members (regardless of party) that represent rural districts to provide legislation that supports my constituency.
The current system in Michigan fails to recognize 3rd party participation. I favor a commission comprised of one Democrat, one Republican, one Independant, and one member from each 3rd Party that has been established on the ballot for the last 10 elections.
Yes, an 80-year old couple was concerned with if they would be able to stay in their home with increased property taxes and their fixed limited income being diminished annually.
Ron doesn't joke around, and is fairly serious most of time.
Yes, it is the legislature's responsiblity to provide oversight. Emergency powers must be limited and constrained to the constitution's limit.
Yes, you have to reach common ground. Currently, our Michigan legislators go to each corner and come out swinging and nothing beneficial for the state is accomplished. Instead of fighting, we should be working.

A simple summation of who I am: Just a farm boy from Indiana who ended up living in Michigan because I have had an interesting life.

41 years of my working life have been within the Federal government's largest bureaucracy, the Department of Defense, Historical events in my early life that I recall are the Kennedy-Nixon debates (10 years old), Bay of Pigs (11 years old), Cuban missile crisis (12 years old) and the assassination of President Kennedy (13 years old). I believe the state's greatest challenges over the next decade are the expanding unelected bureaucracy, infrastructure and revenue. I believe the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature is that which clearly recognizes each others constitutional responsibilities and limitations, while maintaining an equitable working relationship. It is necessary to develop a working relationship with other legislators in order to attain a consensus in achieving effective legislation. The committees I desire to serve on are the Oversight Committee, Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Agriculture Committee, and Government Operations Committee. The book which will help you understand political philosophy is "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler. The qualities I have that would make me a successful representative are honesty and common sense. Details of my life, beliefs and issues are available at www.RonHawkins2020.com .

  • Be responsive to all citizens within the 63rd District.
  • Be honest and forthright in my actions and answers.
  • Public service is a privilage.
The issue of probate court guardianship. The lack of public knowledge of this system and the serious potential for abuse of those who become a ward of the court. Policy solutions that requires both public and legislative oversight as necessary to preclude a human being from becoming trafficked for financial gain. In my opinion this is simply a modern form of slavery.
The two legislators I would hope to emulate are John Fitzgerald Kennedy (leadership/labor support) and Edward William Proxmire (challenge government waste)
Humility, honesty, common sense and a clear understanding of their constitutional resonsibilities and limitations.
Honest, straightforward and common sense based on my life experiences.
Represent the people you are elected to serve to the best of your abilities.
A better world for my grandchildren. A State government that is effective, honest and responsible to the citizens of Michigan.
Kennedy-Nixon debates. 10 years old

Bay of Pigs. 11 years old
Cuban missile crisis. 12 years old

Assassination of President Kennedy. 13 years old
Farm work (age 7-15)

Pioneer Seed Corn de-tasseling (age 13-15 summer work)

High School Vocational Agricultural Program as a mechanic F.R Hull & Son Farm Equipment Dealership (Junior & Senior years in afternoons and full-time summers)
"How Alexander Hamilton Screwed Up America" by Brion McClanahan.

'Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.'
I am happy with who I am. My life has been interesting enough so I have no desire to be a fictional character.
Spelling. The educational experts determined that learning phonics to spell was unnecessary when I attended grade school.
Beneficial, but not necessary. 41 years working in the Federal government's largest bureaucracy, the Department of Defense, has provided me with some insight into how dysfunctional and inefficient an oversized bureaucracy can become.
Expanding non-elected bureaucracy, infrastructure and revenue.
Recognize the constitutional responsibilities and limitations of each, while maintaining an equitable working relationship.
Yes, it is necessary to develop a working relationship in order to attain a consensus in achieving effective legislation. I believe many campaign using the word fight. I prefer to use the word work.
Population driven computer modeling based on expanding or contracting squares. Remove human partisanship. (The Renk model)
Oversight Committee, Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Agriculture Committee, and Government Operations Committee.
A married couple in their 80's on a fixed income were fearful they would be unable to remain in their home due to increasing taxes, medical costs and cost of living.
