Peter M. Forman is a judge for the Dutchess County Court in New York. He has served in this position since 2011, following his election in 2010. His current term ends in 2020. He has also served as an Acting Justice of the Dutchess County Supreme Court since 2001.[1][2][3]

Education

Forman received his B.A. degree from LeMoyne College in 1977 and his J.D. degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1981.[1]

Career

Forman began his career in 1982 as an Assistant Dutchess County District Attorney in Poughkeepsie, NY. He left that position in 1986. He then served as a city attorney for Beacon, NY from 1990 to 1999 and as a law clerk to Judge Thomas Dolan of the Dutchess County Court from 1993 to 1999. He also worked in the private practice of law as a partner of Pisanelli & Forman from 1994 to 1999.

Forman's judicial career began in 1999 when he was appointed to the Dutchess County Family Court. He was elected to a full term on this court in 2000 and was re-elected in 2009. He has also served as an Acting Justice of the Dutchess County Supreme Court since 2001 and as a judge of the Dutchess County Family Treatment Court since 2002. In 2010, he was elected to the County Court. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of Marist College since 2000.[1]

Judge Forman ran for an open seat on the Dutchess County Court in 2010. The seat was open due to the retirement of Gerald V. Hayes.[4] He was unanimously nominated by the county GOP Committee.[5]
