|Pete co-founded and opened The Galley: A St. Pete Tavern in 2016 on a “cursed” block in Downtown St. Pete. The Galley was an immediate success creating dozens of jobs while also becoming a community gathering place. The Galley’s success spawned an expansion with The Ship’s Hold cocktail bar in 2019, and a sister restaurant named for his grandma, Mary Margaret’s Olde Irish Tavern, in 2020.
Battling thru challenging events like Hurricane Irma & Covid 19, The Galley & Mary Margaret’s have become staples in the downtown business community & helped to lead the way in the fight against the virus while feeding thousands in the community. Neither The Galley nor Mary Margaret’s laid off a single employee during the Covid Lockdowns.
As a passionate advocate for the city and outspoken business leader, Pete is proud to call St. Pete his forever home and resides again in Shore Acres with his loving wife, Jessica and her 3 children— one block from where he attended pre-school at LCC and stocked shelves at his parent’s store. Pete & Jessica are als- ST PETE FIRST Every issue will be viewed in the prism of one goal— how does this make St. Pete better? Making St. Pete the best is not just an idea, but it is the vision of our goal. I am in this race to always be St. Pete First—to fight the good fight, to solve long standing liabilities and tired issues that have plagued our city for far too long. We need to build more houses, modernize our institutions, cut spending and taxes, champion small business and work to save Major League Baseball. I want to hear from you. I want to be your voice. I want to make a difference.
- TRIM THE FAT AND CUT THE RED TAPE We need to make St Pete more affordable again by limiting the scope of government and changing the approach we have to a customer service strategy to serve our city. We have removed barriers to entry for new small businesses and make it easier for people to build new housing and to renovate. St. Pete’s City budget has exploded in recent years. Every single department will be analyzed and scrutinized with a business-like mindset for best possible outcomes and optimum efficiency. There is no department that will be immune to cuts; Every department will be pushed to improve. Staff will be held accountable when prudent and praised often for saving taxpayer dollars.
- Affordable Housing: Our success and geography have caused an affordable housing problem in St. Pete. The only way to attain affordable housing in a county that is 99% built out, is to build up, with a keen eye towards density and preservation of existing housing stock. The greater the housing supply that addresses the appropriate demand will yield stabilization and lower the housing prices. Zoning also needs to be analyzed to allow more multi-family units in neighborhoods (triplexes, duplexes, garage apartments, small-scale apartment buildings) where it is appropriate while maintaining the character of our neighborhoods. The future requires more housing, with less office space development, for the modern family and future St. Pete.
Neighborhoods like my home, Shore Acres, are very vulnerable to flooding. We need to do all that we can to protect this neighborhood and keep our residents safe.
First, I think public servants should have a servants heart to help people.
Next, they need integrity. People need to be able to stand up for what they believe and remain principled and not just act on political expediency.
Also, elected officials should be curious. They should desire the truth and seek it out.
Additionally, elected people must be hard-working and accessible. Officials need to show up to work and put in the time and effort to listen to their constituents.
