|Nick was raised by two working parents in Ashburn, where he grew up supported by free lunch and the CASA programs provided by Loudoun County Public Schools. In elementary school, Nick’s future was bolstered by the special education department when a school speech-language pathologist helped him overcome a speaking disorder. At the age of 17, he attended his first School Board meeting to advocate for LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections for Loudoun County Public Schools students and staff and has advocated for policies that uplift our communities ever since.
A small business owner and public policy advocate, Nick has worked to engage communities head-on, whether that was organizing vaccine clinics under the Virginia Department of Health or advising Loudoun’s Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Developmental Services (MDSADS) on policy and community engagement strategies.
Nick is an active member of the Loudoun community, where he resides with his partner. He serves on the Board of Directors of Equality Loudoun, Loudoun’s oldest and largest LGBTQ+ nonprofit, and was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve on the Loudoun County Community Services Board, where he works collaboratively to help Loudoun provide services for people of all ages who have mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities.
- Every student requires a world-class education
- School Boards should actively work to support students, educators, and parents in every avenue of operation
- Our community needs an active roadmap to address areas where we fall short
Throughout his professional career, Nick has been most committed to policies that uplift our communities. Whether that's ensuring LGBTQ+ individuals aren't discriminated against when they seek out governmental assistance or protecting our delicate ecosystems from polluters.
In the realm of education, Nick believes that we need true champions of public education to ensure every student has the same access to a high-quality public education, regardless of IEP status, native language, or economic background.
Nick also recognizes the intersection of our public education system with every facet of our community and will fight to ensure we don't just pay teachers what they deserve but that they are able to find and afford housing in the same communities where they work.
Nick brings an evidence-based approach to aspects of policy, ensuring our data drives our progress and that we're being smart about the allocation of resources to maximize success and minimize wastefulness.
