Four of nine seats on the Nashua School District Board of Education in New Hampshire were up for at-large general election on November 7, 2017. Three incumbents filed for re-election. Incumbent Dotty Oden and candidates Heather Raymond, Ray Guarino, and Gloria Timmons defeated incumbents George Farrington and Sandra Ziehm and challengers Haley Goodspeed, Burton Janz, and Jamila Scales.[1][2]

Voter and candidate information
The Nashua School District Board of Education consists of nine members elected at large to four-year terms.[3] Four seats were up for election on November 7, 2017.
Candidates had to be qualified to vote in Nashua and collect 50 qualifying petition signatures from qualified Nashua voters. Voters could not sign multiple petitions for the same candidate, but they could sign as many petitions as there were seats up for election. The filing period for this election was from August 29, 2017, to September 8, 2017.[4]

Nashua School District is located in southern New Hampshire in Hillsborough County. The county seats are Nashua and Manchester. The county was home to an estimated 407,761 residents from 2010 to 2016, according to the United States Census Bureau.[6] The district was the second-largest school district in the state in the 2014-2015 school year and served 11,788 students.[7]
Demographics
Hillsborough County overperformed in comparison to the rest of New Hampshire in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2016. The United States Census Bureau found that 35.9 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 34.9 percent of state residents. The median household income in Hillsborough County was $71,244, while it was $66,779 for New Hampshire. The county poverty rate was 8.0 percent, compared to the state's 7.3 percent.[6]
