I am a Constitutional Conservative and have been a member of the Republican Party since I was old enough to vote! I take my duty to vote seriously and I have missed very few elections as I feel my voice counts! My life experience spans many areas, and I feel that I have walked in many of the same shoes as those who I want to represent. As far as my working experience, I started out in Corporate America as an internal auditor and broke a glass ceiling as I was the very first women they hired in the Internal Audit Department! After having my first child, I transitioned to teaching in a private Christian school. I earned my Master's Degree in Education and taught for almost two decades. I also worked as the Curriculum Director. Moving to Las Vegas I transitioned again and became a Realtor and Small Business Owner! On a personal note, I am mother to 3 amazing sons! A fire captain here in Clark County, a Navy Fighter Pilot who is now pursuing his law degree here in Las Vegas, and a Relationship Manager in Commercial Banking. I have 5 amazing grandchildren (5 years and under) that I love reading to and seeing them learn how to read, write, and do arithmetic! That's the teacher in me!! I'm just saddened that my husband is no longer alive to see them. I LOVE the outdoors and enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and I've even gone hunting! I enjoy traveling and getting to know the varied cultures of the people on this beautiful planet! I hope you will elect me!
  • Election Integrity - The foundation of our system is knowing that every eligible person has the right to one vote to make their voice heard. This past election has shown us that out system is flawed. ID is something that every person needs for almost everything we do, and it must be mandatory for voting as well! We need to stop the mass mailing of ballots! My deceased husband got one! We need a foolproof chain of custody with ballots so that the people can once again feel that the elections are fair and honest!
  • Reform our K-12 Schools - Our children are our future and currently there are too many who can't compete on the national stage for good paying jobs! We are ranking at or near the bottom once again and in the past we have kept throwing money at the problem and it hasn't helped. It's time to come up with REAL solutions and I would advocate that school choice be the first to allow parents to remove their child from a failing school! This also affects NV economically as new and varied businesses do not want to come here due to our low school ranking!
  • Expand our Economy - COVID and the lockdowns brutalized the small business owner! We need to repeal any restrictions & regulations that hamper business growth and our ability to compete with other states in attracting new business. We need to work on bringing in new industries so that gaming/tourism and mining are not the only two we have. But making NV an appealing place to live points back to our educational system. We MUST rectify that so that the employees of those new ventures are willing to bring their families here!
Being a teacher for almost two decades and continuing to tutor and help my grandchildren is my passion. I am so disheartened by the failed system of the public schools K-12 and its impact on the lives of our young people. We MUST find a way to turn this ongoing situation around and do better. School choice will give parents the opportunity to pull their child out of a failing school. This in turn will be a loss of income to that school. Too much income lost will hopefully result in the administration of that school to do a deep dive to find out where the root cause of the problem is and rectify it. This is how private business is and we should expect no less from the public sector! Perhaps the root problem is that our population explosion over the past 2-3 decades has outgrown the Clark County School District's capabilities to manage something so large, and we need to scale the District back and add smaller city districts. It's one of the most complex issues facing our electorate today. There is no easy answer, and it won't be rectified overnight, but something has to be done. We cannot continue to fail our children!
As a Christian, I am always reading books and learning from godly men and women. But as godly as they are and as full of wisdom as they are, they are still fallible and will make mistakes as will I. But my eyes are always on my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I strive to live the life He would want me to live. I pray daily and ask God to impart on me a portion of the wisdom He gave to King Solomon and then each day I ask for even more wisdom. This life can be trying and full of challenges at times, but I have found that I always can rest and take comfort in His presence.
The core responsibility for a legislature is to get to know your constituency and what their struggles and concerns are so that those issues can be addressed. It is not about what I think should happen! I am a mouthpiece of those I represent!
My first historical recollection was when I was 6. I remember hearing that our President, John F. Kennedy had been shot. I distinctly remember watching TV with my parents for his funeral and seeing little JFK, Jr. saluting his father's casket. As a child that really impacted me.
My first job was working in a law office answering phones and sorting through files. I was in high school and I worked there about 6 weeks or so during one of my summers off.
One of the biggest struggles in my life has been dealing with mental health issues/dementia with those I love. Both my brother and my sister have Fragile-X syndrome which is a leading cause for mental retardation. It is genetic and they have had it since birth. My parents awarded custody of my brother to the state of CA when he was 13. I was 3. There wasn't the options for my parents in those days that there is today. My sister currently lives with me and I care for her. Before my parents passed away, I had them genetically tested and my mother was also affected with Fragile-X Syndrome. Having siblings that both were challenged mentally greatly affected how I "see" people today. My heart goes out to people who are struggling especially with mental health issues. Dementia related issues and mental health concerns are something that we all need to address and be sensitive to!
The governor should be assisting the state legislature and encouraging them to work together to get the work of the people done! The governor should not be mandating things to the people and overriding the legislature with emergency proclamations as happened with the lockdowns and mask mandates.
The failing K-12 public school system. It will take at least a decade of hard work and difficult choices but I believe it can be done. ANOTHER is the water crisis that we are experiencing with this extended drought.
A unicameral state legislature does not take into consideration the varied voices to the different sectors of society. There is much better representation of the populace with the system we have now, bicameral legislature.
I believe that while experience is great, it can lead to complacency and being "in a rut" with one's thinking. It is wise to bring in new perspective and someone that has been an actual part of "we the people" and is not so far removed as to have forgotten what it's like to be the "represented."
It is very beneficial to have a relationship with the people with whom you are meeting. That doesn't mean that you all fall within their line of thinking, but that you can more effectively communicate with them and understand where they are coming from.
I think I would be valuable in the Education Committee due to my experience. I also would love to be on the Elections Contest Committee, and perhaps the Ways and Means Committee with my business experience.
YES! We have seen firsthand what our current governor did with the COVID crisis!
There are some things where no compromise can be made. We must all answer to God one day for the choices we make. God created life and therefore I cannot and will not compromise on my pro-life stance. If the mother's life was truly in grave danger then an attempt should also be made to save the baby no matter how many weeks old as we have come so far with medical knowledge. Then there are times where compromise can accomplish great things and get people to working together again. We have become such a divided nation along political and socioeconomic lines that very little actually gets accomplished. The issue is usually there is too much "pork" wrapped up in bills where people feel they cannot compromise.
