The Shiveluch volcano erupted after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake rocked eastern Russia. Local authorities reported that the ash plume rose 8 km above sea level and extended 492 km to the east-southeast. Residents of the Kamchatka peninsula posted footage of the earthquake online.
