Where we are so far:
Proposals were submitted to Basildon Council in 2011 and the Planning committee
resolved to grant planning permission in March 2012.
This exciting development will provide:
- A new Morrison's Supermarket and car parking
- Relocation of Aldi to a new store. Remaining trading in Pitsea throughout work
- A new market with a minimum of 70 stalls with ancillary storage & amenity building
- Redevelopment of the retail area providing modern facilities
- Refurbishment of Pembroke House and associated shops
- Improved public realm and landscaping
Works to the regeneration of the Pitsea Centre are now advancing in four areas of the site:
- The New Market Square
- Construction of the New Aldi
- The Retaining Wall to the Morrison's Service Yard/Access Road to the
eastern boundary of the site
- Re-paving of the Northlands pavement
Timescales
- Appointment of main contractor to occur early May 2013
- From July regeneration works to be phased to allow existing retail operations
to continue
- Due to phased nature of the works, the project will take just under two years
to complete
- General site refurbishment works and smaller retail elements will be completed
during Year 1
- The large retail unit, to be occupied by Morrisons and landscaping works will
follow in the second half of the contract period
- Aldi relocating to a new unit being provided during the first half of the contract
period. They will remain trading in Pitsea throughout this process
- A number of the existing smaller independent retailers are being relocated to
new retail units on the site as part of the works
- The outdoor market will also be retained and be given a new, more prominent, trading location
We would also like to thank all the staff and patients of the Dipple Medical Centre for their continued support and understanding during the construction of the new car park.
To ensure everyone’s safety and to minimise disruption we have prohibited the delivery of materials and the loading / removal of demolition materials on Market days.
The construction works will be undertaken behind hoardings, fencing and barriers in addition to a fully trained site team being implemented. However, we would ask everyone to be extra vigilant when in this area.
We will employ construction techniques that will minimise noise and dust – and the entire team will always try to minimise disruption wherever possible.
