Zirje, an island in the Sibenik archipelago, about 22 km southwest of Sibenik; area 15.4 sq km (length 11.8 km, width up to 2.5 km); population 160; the highest peak Kapic (131 m). The island is composed of limestone, which forms two mountain ridges; between them is a fertile valley. The sea west of Zirje is rich in fish. On the northern coast of the island are the coves of Mikavica, Muna, Koromasna and Japlenisce. The coves of Kabal, Mala and Vela Stupica, Krusevica, Tratinska, Velika and Mala Nozdrva are located on the southern coast. Winters are mild, summers are dry and warm; the island is exposed to northerly and southerly winds; annual rainfall is 753 mm.
