Snow White Producer’s Son Blasts Rachel Zegler for Movie’s Box Office

Jonah Platt, son of the producer of Disney’s live-action Snow White, severely criticized the movie’s star, Rachel Zegler, in a since-deleted comment on Instagram. He also blamed her for its poor box office performance. Platt shared the post after his father Marc Platt was lambasted on social media following reports that he spoke to Zegler about the studio’s concerns regarding her controversial posts.

Jonah Platt blames Rachel Zegler’s personal politics for Snow White’s failure

Earlier this week, Variety published an article on the troubled production of Disney’s live-action Snow White and its poor box office outing. The article mentions that Marc Platt, presumably on Disney’s behalf, visited Zegler to discuss the “Free Palestine” post she shared in August 2024. He visited her again after she put up disparaging posts on Donald Trump and his supporters. Following the article’s publication, Marc Platt drew criticism on social media. One person commented on Jonah Platt’s Instagram page, calling Marc “creepy as hell” and saying that his actions were “uncalled for.” This prompted Jonah to target Zegler in a since-deleted Instagram comment.

Jonah Platt started his lengthy message by asking the commenter, “You really want to do this?” He added, “Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for. This is called adult responsibility and accountability.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)

Jonah claimed that Zegler’s actions “clearly hurt” the box office performance of the movie. He noted, “Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.” Jonah accused Zegler of hijacking “the conversation for her own immature desires” and risking tens of thousands of her colleagues in the process. He concluded, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”

Snow White debuted in U.S. theaters on March 21, 2025. It made an abysmal $42.2 million in the opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada. Reportedly, the movie has a production budget of $240-270 million.
